Your mission
The Berghof Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization supporting people in conflict in their efforts to achieve sustainable peace through conflict transformation and peacebuilding. In the framework of our Sub-Saharan Africa Unit, we are looking for a Project Officer to join the team.  
 
Overview of the position: 
Hours: Full-time (39 hours per week) 
Starting date: As soon as possible 
End date: 15.11.2026 (with possibility of extension) 
Location: Berlin, Germany (with frequent travels) 
Department and reporting line: Senior Project Manager, Sub-Saharan Africa Unit  

Your main tasks: 
  • You contribute to the successful implementation of the project and actively support and participate in project-related activities and events. 
  • You collaborate closely with colleagues in the project team and Finance Department regarding all elements of (financial) project administration, e.g. procurement, financial documentation, narrative reporting and other administrative topics, and you ensure that internal and external guidelines are met
  • You contribute to donor reporting, and you coordinate monitoring, evaluation and learning activities. 
  • You contribute to the development of concept notes, agendas and other relevant documents for the implementation of project activities and events. 
  • You conduct background research and develop abstracts about relevant topics.
  • You contribute to the communication towards project partners, stakeholders and participants
  • You travel frequently (including to high-risk areas).
Your knowledge, experience & skills
  • You hold a master’s degree within a relevant field such as Peace and Conflict Studies, Political Science, International Relations or similar.
  • You have first relevant work experience (e.g. in contributing to international projects with local partners).
  • You are willing to travel to Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa more broadly, including to high-risk areas, as required.
  • You have experience in remote communication and cooperation, event organization and logistics, budget management and coordination of tasks in an international and intercultural setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written language skills in English (at least C1-level).
  • Professional skills in the use of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Teams) complete your profile.
